Carl's Place DIY vs Pro vs Curved Enclosures: Which Fits Your Space?

Carl's Place makes three different golf simulator enclosures, and the right one depends less on budget and more on how much room you actually have and whether you want your launch monitor hanging from the enclosure itself or from your ceiling. Here is what each one is built for, backed by the actual sizes, depths, and frame specs for every option we carry.

What Space Fits Each One

DIY Kit: garages, basements, and spare rooms

The DIY Kit runs from 8x8 up to 9x12 feet, the smallest footprint of the three, and it is the one built for rooms where you cannot spare extra feet behind the screen. Carl's Place designed it for a garage, basement, spare room, golf shed, or home studio rather than a dedicated large build. If your available room is tight, this is where to start.

Pro Kit: the most flexible depth

The Pro Kit offers four depth options, starting at just 5 feet and running up to 15, so it works in both a tighter room and a deep dedicated studio using the same frame design. Its 2 inch EMT tubing frame is the only one of the three that Carl's Place rates to support compatible overhead equipment directly, which matters if you want your launch monitor or projector mounted to the enclosure itself rather than your ceiling.

Curved Kit: built for a dedicated studio

The Curved Kit needs the most depth of the three, starting at 8 feet, because the wraparound screen needs room to curve around your field of vision rather than sit flat. It is built as the centerpiece of a dedicated golf room or commercial bay, not a tight utility space. If you have the depth, it is the most immersive of the three.

Can You Still Mount a Launch Monitor Overhead?

Yes, with one distinction worth knowing before you buy. Carl's Place states directly that the Pro Kit's frame can support compatible overhead equipment, which means a launch monitor or projector can mount to the enclosure itself. The DIY and Curved Kits make no such claim about their own frames. That does not rule out an overhead launch monitor with either one. Carl's Place also sells a separate Launch Monitor Ceiling Drop Mount Kit that suspends the monitor from your room's own ceiling joists or structure, not from the enclosure, and that kit is not tied to a specific enclosure model. In practice, that means if you want the monitor hanging off the enclosure frame itself, the Pro is the one built for it. If you are fine mounting to your actual ceiling instead, the DIY and Curved Kits can still work with an overhead launch monitor. See our EYE XO2 installation guide for what ceiling height and placement an overhead monitor actually needs, and our launch monitor comparison if you have not settled on ceiling mounted versus floor mounted yet.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which Carl's Place enclosure is the cheapest?

The DIY Kit, starting at $999.95. It is also the smallest, so the lower price reflects less frame and screen, not a missing feature.

Can I mount a projector or launch monitor to the enclosure frame itself?

Only the Pro Kit's frame is rated by Carl's Place for that. The DIY and Curved Kits can still be paired with overhead equipment, but it needs to mount to your ceiling structure rather than the enclosure.

How much depth do I actually need?

At minimum, 8 feet for the DIY Kit's smallest size, 5 feet for the Pro Kit's shortest depth option, and 8 feet for any Curved Kit. Add swing room in front of the screen on top of that. Our room fit measuring guide walks through measuring your own space.

Do the enclosure kits include the launch monitor or projector?

No. Every Carl's Place kit is the screen and frame only. The launch monitor, projector, hitting mat, and software are sold separately.
